Developed by the non-profit Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP), with a start-up grant from the National Science Foundation, Project ASTRO has been assisting educators since 1994. The program provides opportunities for professional and amateur astronomers to contribute to science education in their local communities.

Project ASTRO began as an experiment in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since then, the program has expanded to include a number of regional sites across the country, thus forming a National Network that exchanges information regularly.

Founded in 2015, the Project ASTRO site at Georgia College aims to provide the resources and networking to assist teachers in Baldwin County and surrounding counties in their efforts to educate K-9 students in STEM skills through the subject of astronomy.

  • Our philosophy is to use the wonder and fascination of astronomy to engage all students in the process of science and logical reasoning.

  • The focus of Project ASTRO is on helping kids learn by doing. By using hands-on, concrete activities where students make discoveries for themselves, students think more like scientists and are more likely to really learn about astronomy.
